bushfires and full bellies: a practice of listening

This week I have been travelling up the coastline with my family, and I have to say it has held so many intense opposites of emotion: both beautiful and heartbreaking.

This belly I carry is so full of promise and new life… yet the bare trees, red sun and thick smoky air tell the saddest story of something devastatingly different. Creation continues inside me… yet destruction unfolds around.

Heart feels so full… yet heart deeply aches and cries for the people, the animals and the earth here. Mark Nepo says: “To listen is to lean in, softly, with a willingness to be changed by what we hear.” I am grateful for this time here away but I am also changed, over and over. And so as I practice each morning in these sore but beautiful places, I will keep leaning in, and I will keep listening. 🙏🏽🍃💔
